The Confident Bowler

Confidence isn't a feeling you wait for. It's a case you build.

Ten teachings on how to show up believing you can do this. And one thing you go accomplish to prove it.

Why I built this

Whether I bowl a 160 or a 260, I'm still ______

I asked an athlete to finish that sentence once. He said: "not good enough."

Sit with that for a second. Even the 260 doesn't fix it. He can throw the best game of his life and walk off the lanes carrying exactly what he carried on. Which proves the feeling was never about the score. If a 260 can't buy "good enough," no number can.

The scoreboard was never the judge. It just does a very good impression of one.

I know that bowler. I was that bowler.

The problem

We talk about confidence like it's weather.

I hear it from youth bowlers, from adults in a Wednesday night league, and I said it to myself for about fifteen years. I just need to be more confident. Said like you walk outside in the morning and check whether you've got any today.

That's the whole problem in one sentence. If confidence is a feeling, it's something that happens to you. You either woke up with it or you didn't. You throw a few in practice and wait to see what shows up.

That's not a mental game. That's a coin flip with extra steps.

A feeling arrives on its own schedule. A case is something you assemble on purpose, and it's still there on the days you feel awful. Which is the entire point. You don't need confidence on the days you already feel good.

What you get

Four of them are waiting. The fifth needs lanes.

Every Approach is built the same way. Only the last one has a finish line, and you are the one who sets it.

Read

The Teaching

The whole thing written out, start to finish, read in one sitting. Ten teachings in plain language, with the stories.

Watch

The Video

Twenty minutes of me teaching the core of it. Not a lecture. There are two places where I stop and make you answer something.

Listen

The Audio

The teaching, read aloud. AirPods in before league. In the car on the way. This turns the twenty minutes before your first shot into something other than standing around getting nervous.

Write

The Worksheet

Four pages, printed, filled in by hand. Your three words. Your if-thens. Ten pieces of your own evidence. The last page is a card you cut out and put in your bag.

Do

The Activation

One thing you go accomplish on the lanes. Finished or not finished.

This is the piece that needs a pair of lanes and forty minutes. Everything above it is ready the minute you buy.

The ten teachings

Packed, on purpose.

Ten teachings, one per frame. This is the whole sheet before you bowl it.

The Confident BowlerTen teachings, frames 01 to 10
01
Whether I bowl a 160 or a 260Why the scoreboard was never the judge.
02
Who you are when you competeThree words, and why they beat an average.
03
I embrace my nervesYour body can't tell nervous from excited. You decide what it means.
04
Trust is a handoff, not a moodThe one that works on your worst day.
05
Nothing to loseAnd the honest question underneath it that you answer yourself.
06
You hunt for the comparison that hurtsWhy second place hurts more than third.
07
The voice that replaces the CriticNot softness. The voice that actually fixes things.
08
Confidence is a case you buildWhere the evidence comes from, including the source nobody else can give you.
09
Champions fall to their planNobody rises. Write the if-thens now.
10
What's the best thing that could happen? Why "don't miss" programs the miss.

The tenth frame gets three boxes. That has always been my favorite thing about this sport.

The Activation

The Evidence Block

Bowl one full block. After every frame, write one word for how it went. Not the score, the word. At the end, read the whole page back before you look at anything else.

That page is the first entry in your case. You don't feel confident and then bowl well. You bowl, you write it down, and the page is what you go back to on the day you don't feel it.

It works whether you shot 140 or 240, because the page is the point, not the score.

One block. One page. Finished or not finished.

Then send it to me

When you're done you'll be holding a page with one word per frame on it, in your own handwriting. Send it to me. I read every one, and your next Approach is $45 instead of $65.

This is the first release in The Approach and I'd rather see what you actually did with it than read what you thought about it. A page is worth more to me than a review. Through December 31.

What bowlers say about working with me

Evidence for frame 06 · the comparison that hurts

"You reminded me that one tournament doesn't define you, and other people's accomplishments don't take away from yours."
Kylie OppedisanoQualified for Junior Team USA Developmental Squad

Evidence for frame 07 · coming back after a bad block

"It really helped me refocus after a rough first block to come back even stronger."
Autumn StrodeJunior Team USA Developmental Team

Kylie and Autumn worked with me at Mental Game & Milkshakes, not in this product. The Confident Bowler is the same teaching, on your own time. Nobody has sent a page back yet, because you are early.

What it costs

You have spent more than this on a ball you don't throw anymore.

I'm not going to hand you a list of what this is "worth." You already know what your season costs, so here it is next to the rest of it.

A new ball$150 to $250
One tournament entry$60 to $100
An hour with a coach$50 to $100
The Confident Bowler$65, one time

Every one of those goes to the half of the game you can already see. This is the other half, it costs less than the entry fee you'll pay to find out you needed it, and you keep it permanently.

One payment. 30 day refund.

The only date on this page is the next one you already have on the lanes.

Who this is for

  • Bowlers who are great in practice and something else in competition
  • Youth bowlers bowling a real season, roughly twelve and up
  • Adults in league and tournaments. This works the same at 45 as it does at 15.
  • Anyone who has watched one bad frame turn into one bad game more times than they can count

Who this is not for

  • Anyone who wants to be told they're great. This asks you to write ten things down and go bowl.
  • Anyone looking for a technique fix. This is the other half of the game.

How you get it

It's yours the minute you check out.

You land on a page with everything on it. The teaching reads in your browser. The video and the audio play there too, on your phone or your laptop, and the audio downloads if you want it in the car with no signal. The worksheet is a PDF you print at the kitchen table, four pages, one of them a card you cut out.

There is nothing to attend and nothing that expires. It stays yours permanently, including anything I fix or add to this release later.

A few honest answers

Will this raise my average?
I don't know, and anyone who promises you a number is not being straight with you. There are too many other things in a score. What I can tell you is what you'll be holding at the end: a card in your bag with your own handwriting on it, and one block of your own evidence.
How do I actually get it?
You buy it and you're in. Everything opens in your browser on any device, the audio downloads for the car, and the worksheet is a PDF you print. No app, no course login to keep track of, nothing that expires. It's yours permanently.
How long does it take?
Read the teaching in a sitting. Watch the video in twenty minutes. Fill in the worksheet at the kitchen table. Then one block on the lanes. You could do all of it in a week if you wanted to.
What if it isn't for me?
Tell me inside 30 days and I'll refund you. Keep the worksheet. I'd rather you print it and use it than sit on something you paid for and didn't like.
Are there live calls or daily texts?
No. Nothing to attend, nothing to keep up with, nothing that expires. It's yours and you use it at your pace.
When would I actually use the audio?
Before league, AirPods in. Or in the car on the way. That's twenty minutes you're currently spending getting nervous in a parking lot.
I'm buying this for my kid. Will they do it?
Most mental game material asks a teenager to log in, watch something long, and journal about their feelings alone. Nobody does that. So start them with the audio on the drive over. It costs them nothing and it's the same teaching.
I'm forty-five and I bowl a Wednesday league. Is this for me?
Yes. None of the ten teachings depend on your age. The bowler who's been at this thirty years and can't figure out why league doesn't look like practice has the same problem as the sixteen year old with the same complaint.
Why would my next one be cheaper?
Because I want your page. Finish the Evidence Block, send me the page, and the next Approach is $45 instead of $65. I'd rather see what you did than read what you thought. Through December 31.
Is this the same as your 12 Frames sessions?
No. 12 Frames is private, one on one, and it builds from your own intake. This is one teaching, on your own, at a fraction of the price.
Is there more coming?
Yes. The Confident Bowler is the first release in The Approach. More are coming, and each one adds its own section to the same bag card.
Is there a team rate?
Yes. If you coach a youth program or run a center, reply and we'll sort out a rate for your roster.

Who is teaching this

I'm Diandra Asbaty. Three-time Hall of Famer, world champion, fifteen years on Team USA.

I have also lost on the biggest stages I ever bowled on, which is where most of what I teach actually came from.

My work has been featured by USA Today, Sports Illustrated, Good Morning America, ESPN, the Chicago Tribune and Fox Business. But the reason I built Beyond the Lanes is simpler than any of that. Championship success comes more from what happens beyond the lanes than on them, and almost nobody is teaching that part.

This is that part.
